first name of village: Caput Insulae – the island’s head !  The legend says that Beli, around 1265, was visited by the king of Hungary Abel (Bela) IV, who after the victory over the Mongols ! 

The village is located on a hill above the sea. The place is at an altitude of about 100 meters. Famous buildings are the Roman Bridge, a rare example of Roman architecture, built in the era of Emperor Tiberius. Beli – fortress of Roman legionnaires! Beli had full autonomy and carried the title of the republic. Now the village has only 45 permanent residents but a lot of tourists in the summer 😉

Close to the village is a haven for the griffon vultures “Eko-center Caput Insulae Beli” and a visitor center:  www.belivisitorcentre.eu.
