Tarej cove is very characteristic for its almost closed circular shape and sandy seabed. Cove is located only 10 nm from our small port Vela Jana.
In the bay you will be able to see rare shells like ‘Periska’. It is strictly forbidden to take the shell out of the sea.
Periska is the largest shell in the area from Gibraltar to the Bosphorus, with a very important role in the food chain of the marine ecosystem. But due to the rapid spread of the disease, which has been causing a mass death of periscopes in the Mediterranean in recent years, the consequences for the Mediterranean could be dramatic.
Due to the alarming situation, the noble periscope was included in the IUCN Red List at the end of 2019 as a critically endangered species, ie a species on the verge of extinction.
